TV Stands & Units

Quick Buying Guide — TV Stands

• TV size: Check the "fits TVs up to" size in the title, and make sure the stand is wider than your TV. A 65in TV is about 57in (145cm) wide, and a 75in TV is about 66in (168cm).
• Weight capacity: Confirm the stand's top surface can hold your TV's weight. Most 65in TVs weigh 45–65lbs (20–30kg), and budget stands sometimes support less than larger sets need.
• Height: For comfortable viewing from a sofa, the middle of the screen should sit near eye level. Stands around 20–30in (51–76cm) tall suit most living rooms.
• Type: Console or media cabinets suit most rooms, corner units make use of awkward spaces, and floating or wall-mounted stands free up floor space but need secure wall fixing. Fireplace stands add a heater, usually 1,500W and plugged into a standard 120V outlet.
• Material: Solid wood and metal stands are the most durable. Engineered wood (MDF, particleboard or laminate) is lighter and cheaper but can sag under heavy TVs over time, so check the weight limit.
• Storage and cables: Look for shelves sized for your consoles and streaming boxes, and for cable holes at the back to keep wires tidy. Glass doors let remote signals through, while solid doors hide clutter.
• Power and lighting: Built-in power outlets or USB ports (look for "charging station") cut down on extension leads. LED lights add ambiance but are mostly cosmetic, so they're not worth paying much extra for.
